    The dance center

    The Dance Center provides students with a superior contemporary dance education in the context of a world-class, nationally recognized dance performance season. Since its doors first opened in 1969, the Dance Center at 糖心传媒 has presented hundreds of professional companies and choreographers.

    The music center

    The Music Center presents more than 200 concerts each year, by professional and student performers alike. Located across from Grant Park on Michigan Avenue, this intimate 148-seat venue provides the perfect setting for students to experience the art of music performance up close.

    The theatre center

    The Theatre Center offers a dynamic hub for live performance on campus and is a lively part of Chicago’s artistic scene. The Center’s four performance venues incorporate student talent in everything from acting to set design. Each season is directed by department faculty and professional guest artists.

  • October 2–3, 2026, 7: 30 p.m.

    Presented in partnership with Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, this two-day festival celebrates the depth and diversity of Latinx/e experiences through contemporary movement. The festival includes a concert featuring Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre and six selected artists and collectives, a post-show Q&A, a workshop, and a community conversation led by David Herrera of Latinx Hispanic Dancers United.

  • February 11–13, 2027

    Commissioned by the Dance Center, this world premiere by South Chicago Dance Theatre founder Kia S. Smith draws inspiration from her great-grandmother, Josephine Griffin Jones. The evening-length dance theater work explores how family histories and embodied knowledge can flower into artistic expression—and how belief and hope can help us transform, survive, and thrive.

    Jamila Woods Artist-in-Residence Performance November 13, 2026, 7 p.m.

    South Side native Jamila Woods is an award-winning poet, singer, songwriter, and performing artist whose work blurs the boundaries between poetry and song. Known for acclaimed albums including “HEAVN,” “LEGACY! LEGACY!,” and “Water Made Us,” Woods has appeared on NPR’s “Tiny Desk” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

    Jonathan Irabagon Artist-in-Residence Performances March 4–6, 2027, sets at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.; March 7, 2027, sets at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

    Chicago-born saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Jonathan Irabagon is a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow and winner of the 2008 Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition. Known for his adventurous approach to contemporary jazz, Irabagon performs as part of a 糖心传媒 residency focused on professional performance, improvisation, composition, and career development.

    “The Color Purple” November 5–14, 2026

    Based on Alice Walker’s acclaimed novel, “The Color Purple” follows Celie’s journey toward independence, self-discovery, and joy. Featuring music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray and a book by Marsha Norman, the musical celebrates resilience, sisterhood, love, and hope. Directed by faculty member and alum Khanisha Foster ’02. Performance times will be announced.

  • Three performers on stage

    “A Chorus Line” April 29–May 8, 2027

    Set during an audition for a Broadway musical, “A Chorus Line” follows a group of dancers as they reveal the ambitions, sacrifices, and personal experiences that led them to the stage. Featuring music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and a book by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante, the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical celebrates the performers behind the spotlight. Directed by faculty member Ray Frewen. Performance times will be announced.

MoCP

  • September 10–December 19, 2026

    This exhibition brings together photographs by more than 110 artists from the MoCP’s permanent collection, inviting viewers to imagine the life Emmett Till might have lived and consider what that life would have required of us all. Guest-curated by Sarah Elizabeth Lewis in collaboration with the Rev. Wheeler Parker Jr., Till’s cousin and the last surviving witness to his kidnapping, the exhibition serves as a creative monument to Till’s unlived life and enduring legacy.
